Hooking up VFD to Bus Pirate
« on: March 31, 2015, 12:25:24 am »
I received a M202SD08GR VFD and I'm trying to hook it up to the Bus Pirate. I have 5 wires coming into it, 2 of which are AC 6V that go through a rectifier and regulator. I'm trying to figure out how to hook the other three wires to the Bus Pirate. One of them in labeled RXD which I assume is Receive. I hooked this up to MISO MOSI on the Pirate. The other two were ground and +5 which I also hooked up the the Pirate. I've connected it in UART mode, set the Rate and parity as it says, but when I send anything to it like 0x14 to turn the cursor off, nothing happens.

Any help would be great. Not even sure if what I'm trying to do is possible.

Okay, so I got it hooked up! I had to take +5 and GND from the display to the Bus Pirate and now I can send commands. I managed to not burn the BP out even! Now the issue is that despite following what they say to do in terms of Baud Rate and stop bits, I'm getting non-repeatable garbage on the screen. 0x14 is supposed to turn the cursor off, instead it places 2 characters. :/

Would be nice if I was just doing something stupid.
