how can i use such output ?
« on: March 12, 2015, 03:37:35 pm »
I built a generator with crazy output ,    .
I tried to connect the generator output to an AC to DC transformer ( 120 AC to 24 DC V ,400 mAh ) , and connected the transformer output terminal to small DC motor ( 15 DC V , 1000 mAh )  ,BUT the motor did not start at all .
how can I transform this crazy electricity to usable electricity .
when I by mistake touched the generator output terminal , I got shocked but it was not as bad as when I got shocked from the wall outlet , but still It made me dance .
thank you .

First off,

I tried to connect the generator output to an AC to DC transformer ( 120 AC to 24 DC V ,400 mAh ) , and connected the transformer output terminal to small DC motor ( 15 DC V , 1000 mAh )  ,BUT the motor did not start at all .

Second, what is this generator? What type of generator is it, how did you design and build it? What output were you expecting from it, and how does it compare to the actual output you got? How are you measuring its output? You seem to have one of your meters reading DC voltage (inappropriate for an AC generator), and the other measuring current. I suspect your current measurement is set up incorrectly. Are you using a test load at all?

There are way too many questions here to give you any advice.

Yeah, uh so... start by putting the meters in AC...

the meters will give the same reading if it was on AC or DC .
the load was 47 ohm resistor . the generator consist of huge single coil with 30 one inch magnets . there was not target output voltage or current flow. I just wanted to see if it will actually generated usable electricity .
as far as current reading it was connected in series with the load ,and voltage meter was in parallel with the load .

Can we see a picture of your generator?

this is it without the drill and the pulleys to  move the magnets up and down inside the big coil .

Oh, I see, he's made a homemade generator. Except the windings are all wrapped around a turning shaft of magnets. That right? Not exactly sure how to describe where it's gone wrong.

Edit: OK, I noticed he says it's moving up and down inside the coil. I would start by looking directly at the output of your coil with an oscilloscope.

the magnets does not rotates , they go up and down like a piston .

Make sure to use high attenuation probes, x100 or so. You're probably generating very high peak voltages, you don't want to damage your oscilloscope.

the magnets does not rotates , they go up and down like a piston .

So it's basically like one of those shake flashlights.
Maybe you should rectify it and smooth it out with a capacitor.

Am I reading those meters correctly?  It looks like they're peaking at ~1000 V and ~20 A?

yes, does go over 1000 v cause the voltmeter high range 1000v and current meter limit 20 A

I tried that but the voltage and current kept on fluctuating . it did not have enough power to turn small dc motor , but when I touch the wires , I got electric shock made dance for good.

OK, so maybe use a stepdown transformer then.
