how do i decode the markings on a cement resister
« on: May 01, 2015, 08:57:33 pm »
I’m not sure what value resister I have. I’ve done numerous google searches with no clear answer. It’s a cement wire wound resistor. The marking are K S C   2.7?K 5W  It’s from the 70’s. I think it’s a 2.7K ohm 5 watt but with the ohm symbol between the 2.7 and the K I’m not sure.  I am converting a PC ATX power supply for use as a bench PS and need a dummy load on the 12V line to stabilize when using small amounts of current.  I think this resister is to much for that use. 27ohm 5w was suggested and I’m to impatient to order one so I’m scrounging through a pile of old parts.
Any suggestions on what other values may also work?
thanks

Why not measure it?

2R7 5% tolerance 5W resistor. The 2.7 omega is the resistance value, the K is the tolerance ( 5%) and the 5W is the rating. KSC is the manufacturer.
