How do you listen to the HD radio broadcast band on a SDR?
« on: February 11, 2017, 11:11:58 pm »
Has anyone here tried this? It would be cool to listen to my classical music in HD and then bluetooth it to my stereo system.
I'm legally blind so sometimes I ask obvious questions, but its because I can't see well.

What is HD radio broadcast band? The FM broadcast band sounds pretty good, except when they play RAP noise.
What is SDR? They are simply three letters that mean nothing. Please talk in words, not letters.

HD Radio in the US is a closed proprietary system, you cannot decrypt it without a chipset licensed from Ibiquity. The whole thing is a scam, private corporation managed to push it through and make it a standard.

Short answer, at the moment you can't, although I'd love to see someone crack it just on principal.

SoftwareDefinedRadio. Very fun, cheap hobby. The uses are endless. I would like to get more into it.

So if you wanted to do so could you buy the chip? After reading about how its controlled by one company I want it to fail. Although it could have been awesome we had to make sure it was privatized.
