How to change the direction of the current in a control system?
« on: November 11, 2014, 12:03:34 pm »
Hello everyone,!
I was given a hard question from my "control system" professor ,the question is: there are two input through a op-amp(+12Volt and -12Volt),so, how to achieve that "when the +12V through the circuit, the current has a deriction, and when the -12V is applied, the current has another direction?" Can I use the "Howland Current Pump"? If not, what can I choose?
Thank you!

Yes, the Howland configuration would be good.
It does depend on the magnitude of the current you are controlling. At low levels of current you could also look at transconductance amplifiers - like LM13700, or CA3080.
