How to clean up my PCB?
« on: December 04, 2014, 06:02:27 am »
I'm trying to get rid of the flux on my board but it seems I have a problem. this is my board:

After soldering two memory under the board(as you can see two memory(a RAM and a Flash)), there is a bit flux among the pins and unfortunately under the plastic of the pin-headers. I have used a spray to wash it out but it doesn't good work for me.

How to clean it(flux) out? I mean the flux under the plastic of the pin-headers. I also have seen this clip:

and I used a combo 50-50% alcohol and acetone but still... :(

I tried to earse the MCU but it's impossible. it seems there are conduction among the pins.

I doubt the problem with erasing the MCU is due to uncleaned flux. You most likely have some pins short circuited together.

For cleaning boards I just use isopropanol (IPA) and a toothbrush. To get no (mainly cosmetic) residue on the board the trick is to dry it up before the IPA evaporates, pressurized air is good for this or just dab it dry with handtowels.

IPA doesn't remove flux on contact.  That's why Dago is using a toothbrush (as do I.)  When a toothbrush doesn't reach, I soak for awhile (moving the board around) and then do a fair bit of rinsing.

I use this flux:

Ya Xun Yx-20

I myself use a toothbrush.
