I like old gear because it's dirt cheap!
In my Ham Shack---err,"Lab",the only things I bought new are:
A Chinese frequency counter, at $A99(Hardly ever use it)
A Chinese10MHz Analog Oscilloscope at $A135 (I had to fix the EHT generator, but apart from that & the knobs falling off it is still going well)
A Chinese OHL 2m handheld transceiver at $A99,(the LCD display has failed) .
A cruddy Jaycar soldering iron at $A50 (Cruddy!!)
All of them except the 'scope, cost less than $A100 each,so I was able to swallow my principles & buy new.
All the rest of my stuff is old, such as the Tektronix 7613,which also coincidentally cost $A135.
(100 times the quality,10 times the bandwidth,way more versatile,but huge & old!)
My HF rig is a Yaesu FT301------pushing 40 years old.
All the other 'Ham stuff is a similar age--several have croaked & are awaiting repair.( Have you ever played with a 1970s Icom SMPS?--AAARRRGGGHHH!)
