I need help choosing a proper connector.

Sorry if I'm in the wrong section, if so a mod could move this to the right section.

I have been tasked with putting a connector onto some breakout boards so they can connect to some flat flex cables. There is 8 pins @ a 0.5mm pitch on the flat flex and the breakout board. Sadly, I can not find a CAD or schematic, or whatever the hell you would want to call it, for the breakout board to verify measurements for any connectors. I'm great at soldering and this will be very easy for me to do once I have the right connector.

These is the breakout boards, obviously using the ones with the 0.5mm pitch.

And this is what I found for a connector to solder on, and with just a little eyeballing it looks like it would work but I would like someone with more experience to verify if it should be okay.

The picture shows a 6 pin connector, but I'm sure all of you are used to digikey's generic pictures.

I have only ordered from digikey one other time and it was a long time ago. Thank you all for taking the time to give me a quick hand with this.

Hi

The fancy name for what you are playing with is an FPC cable / connector. There is a multi layer problem here:

1) The interconnect cable is a bit tricky to do.

2) The connectors are a bit weird

3) If you simply buy the cable, it tends to be connector speciific

Simple answer is to pick both the cable *and* the connector at the same time. If you already *have* a connector on one end, you need to get some pretty good data on it. Might you get lucky? Sure, it's quite possible you will.

Once you find a connector, you will likely have to do up a custom part for it in your layout program.
