I want to buy a bench oscilloscope ~
« on: August 15, 2017, 08:35:10 pm »
My first ever post.
Oscilloscope is for the general hobby electronics. My budget is $1000 maximum, but not less than $800. Any suggestion?
I have a plan to slowly build an electronics lab. Is there an equipment and material list that I can follow to buy? Thanks.

Welcome to the forum.

The place to start looking is:

I've read some that say they get way more use out of a logic analyzer than a scope now days.  I'd say 'build your interest' first and let the lab equipment follow that.

Seriously.  What is your interest?  Do you have any projects in mind?  Dropping a grand on a scope is not really the way to start until you know what you need that scope to do.  I just got one for $35 used that does way more than I actually need it to do as a hobbyist.

Very useful video. Thanks.
I believe there is a text version of the list somewhere?

That video was 6 years ago.  Dave has done a follow-up video last year where he tries to do the same thing on a tight budget of $300.

You may not be interested in the low budget side of things, but it is useful to see the type of gear he suggests.....
