I don't want to be the party-pooper here, but it is extremely unlikely that a flyback controller IC would *explode* all on its own... Which is to say, the transistor it drives has almost certainly failed as well, and possibly the primary clamping components (a zener or RCD or both).

Fairchild sucks when it comes to samples. I think you need to get them through a representative who is willing to put in some effort. I once did a freelance job on a gizmo that was supposed to be produced in 20k+ units (4pcs of part in question in each) and they still didn't give a shit when I tried to order directly through their website.

Well,  IRF made money on that one...

If you have some family or friends living abroad maybe they could order the part for you and then send it to you?

I didn't actually look up the part in the original post and therefore did not realize it is one of those dreaded "internal switch" flyback ICs; so replacing just it will likely solve the problem... for now, anyway.

Hey, Christo, the capital controls have been relaxed a bit. It seems you can send up to 500€ abroad per month, so you can buy it yourself. Few days ago I tried to buy something from ebay, but failed instantly. Today I heard the news and tried again. This time the message I got from paypal was that I needed to verify my card, which I did and seems to have succeeded. It says "posts to Europe". Last time I checked the news, Greece was still in Europe.

Well, Greece is geographically still in Europe, but economically it is a different story. I think they have capital controls in place and their credit cards are getting refused by Paypal and such, so while the seller could ship to Greece, paying him could be another matter.

replaced the transistor near the ic 901 ,,what else can i do?

THX MAN,,well  ,,i didnt have time to work on it cuz of the job,,nvm,,there where 2 diodes burnd(shorted) and one of them was a zener,,,the zener diode didnt show up in the Schematic ..nvm  it works now as it did before thanks to you ,,you saved me a lot of money cuz i would buy a new one,,,,Thank you!!!

shorted diodes: [ the D901 and a zener (22v) at the pin 2 of the IC901 to the ground]
