Identify motor
« on: July 20, 2017, 07:47:37 pm »
So I pulled this non-functioning (no stator winding and no nameplate) motor from a table saw and I need help identifying it.

My guess is that it's a single phase induction (asynchronous) motor.
There is also a capacitor present and the rotor looks like a squirrel cage type but I'm not sure.
I'm also curious what that spring is for. Could it be some sort of a centrifugal switch?

Any help would be appreciated!

That's not a motor. It's just the rotor. Does the shaft spin on the bearings? If the bearings haven't seized up, then the fault lies with the stator, start capacitor and/or any control gear such as contactors and switches.

I realize this is just the rotor. The bearings are OK.
Problem definitely lies with the stator because there is no stator winding present. Previous owner took it out, I guess he was trying to rewind it.

Throw it out.. Really, AC motors are so dirt cheap, it's not worth 10 minutes.
