infared dectator
« on: April 19, 2014, 02:42:05 am »
hello so a beginner would like some help with his really basic design that could be entirely wrong. i want to make a infrared detector then transmit that but would like to stick to the basics. i would like to use a 2n-3904 or 2n-3906 with a detector, transmitter and a couple resistors. i have don't really know what values i should use for the resistors or if i need to find a certain wavelength for my transmitter. i feel like this would be to simple but here it goes. please excuses my bad drawing.

You may not want that resistor before the transistor only the one after between the transistor and before the LED

when you say "then transmit" your talking about making a repeater? if so, just about any ir led should work. for most general applications, i dont think you will see a difference between an 850 or 940.

the series resistor would be calculated using the led's parameters and your supply voltage, same as any other led.

if i misunderstood, and you are just looking to detect, as the title says, any camera can do that much simpler.
