input current regulators

first ,,this is a question for my motorcycle cuz the output wires from the coils that generates power are getting hot after changing the regulator. the coils are in good condition

if a battery needs more current from a regulator and the regulator can supply it,,does the input current from the regulator increase?

or am i wrong?
