Is 2 diodes = 1 SCR?
« on: May 04, 2016, 04:53:18 pm »
Hi everyone,
I was reading about SCR recently and I saw the internal structure of an SCR and how people were able to get the same functionality with transistors so this got me wondering if that could be possible with a pair of diodes in series ?

Better to use coupled PNP/NPN transistors like they show in the wikipedia article on SCRs.

No to 2 diodes in series, you need a mechanism that has V trip point and
positive feedback.

Oh what a bomber, I was realy excited when I first thought about it, but thanks for explaining I really think a two diode SCR would be a slick thing thuo

Two diodes in series wouldn't work, you need a semi-conductor junction, not a piece of wire in between
