Is it neccessary to buy a true RMS multimeter ?

I'm a second year student in university, and i start to learn electronics from basic to advanced. Is it neccessary to buy a multimeter with true RMS ? thanks  :)

If this is your first meter, I wouldn't worry about it.

I find that anytime I care enough about a signal to need true RMS, I need an oscilloscope anyway...

If you are in the market for a cheap meter, one of the forum members here has an ebay store out of hong kong: http://stores.ebay.com/99centhobbies

Take at look at the UNI-T UT61-E (which is true RMS, and has serial out), or the (cheaper) Digitek DT-4000ZC (which has serial out, but is not true RMS).

This is the third thread that Nhan95 has started on buying a multimeter. He/she doesn't seem to want to listen to advice and keeps starting new threads looking for a different answer.

Yes it is but its the first thread specifically on weather True RMS is needed

Being a University student, I would suggest getting a true RMS meter. Also as a student getting the cheapest possible may well be a good idea as well.
