As far as I know, a important parameter of solder iron is its react to the thermo change on it's tip. Cartridge style solder iron has its advantage by nature. Is it possible to modify such cartridge style solder handle from good brand to be used with some cheap solder stations, such as 898D+? Those solder stations has 5 core cable port for iron handle. Anyone have some experiences?

Other than a relative dearth of cheap cartridge-tip knockoff handpieces, sure why not?

There are quite some such handle or diy cartridge handle on ebay at below $18. The thing I'm not sure is the pinout of the 7 pin cable and 5 pin cable. What voltage they use. Can the cheap station handle the cartridge thermo sensor? Where can I find such information?
