Zombie, because I'm guessing it's brain (CPU) is dead.

I spotted it on my way to work this evening past, and since half my babies are in the workshops getting new wheels, leaving me with plenty of time on my hands, I figured I'd have my own little Tear Down Tuesday, in the hope of a Fixit Friday if it turned out to be just an electrolytic or two in the power supply. The unrecognized brand name and the incredibly light weight lifted my hopes that this might be true.

No such luck. It powered up in standby mode, punching the button on the remote gave me a blue power light, and the back-lights lit up just fine. However, no booty boot boot. Just a blank Stygian blue screen. (Clearly not the most wonderful of high contrast LCDs.)

Taking the shell off the back revealed a remarkably dust free interior, a reasonably decently constructed modular design, and a total dearth of magic blue smoke sources. A close in sniff test resulted in neither an ah-ha or choo. If I had to lay a bet it would be on electro-migration in the CPU. (I might hook the control panel back up and see just how hot the heatsink gets.)

Now for the numbers I wrote down. Forgot to record the actual brand/model. I will get some photos this evening to come. (Working nights is almost as bad as time travel for terminology :D )

TFT 212113 (No Google joy)

DVBPM3201A (No Google joy, maybe a part number for the encased LCD.)

CV306H-K-11 (Google finds lots of A's. Main board for several different (recognizable) brands of TV, but not many K's which appear to be a feature reduced variant.)

24V (bleeding obvious, but not sure what's being supplied at this voltage unless it's the audio amplifiers.)

A320HD1A05 6/MT3151A05-1 (Flat panel part no.  1366 x 768.  Data sheet http://www.datasheetspdf.com/PDF/MT3151A05-1/903529/1)

And a whole lot of interspersed Chinese.

My question.
    Is it worth even thinking about:
    • A replacement main board, (Price seems cheap enough for the CV306H-A-11, but K variant seems considerably harder to come by.);
      • I'm up to hacking a new enclosure if the A is electronically compatible and someone can point me at an information sheet or two for the conectors.
    • A generic VGA to LCD driver board;
    • Mating it too an old laptop with a dead keyboard to make a cheapie multimedia system for the foot of my bed; or
    • Should I just complete the tear down for my own edification (and any recoverable parts) before I consign whatever remains to the skip?

Thanks in advance,

BJ AKA Black Betty.

I would say that it depends on if you are looking for it to be an educational pursuit or to get a functioning LCD for a specific use. If the former, then a 3rd party replacement board will probly be the least amount of headache overall. If you are wanting to make it really interesting you can try for a generic driver board. Or if you are masochistic, you can even go at it with an FPGA.

Personally? I would just harvest any good parts and then spend a couple bucks on a used LCD panel from the thrift store. I regularly find 20 inch or bigger for $5-10. Mating that to an old laptop would make for a great little htpc. (Plex and XBMC being personal faves)

I took the Path Of The Philips.

PSU, three stripes off backlight LEDs, diffusers, and other odds and sods.

Anyone in the Bendigo region interested in An LDC ONLY, encased in the carcass.  To replace a busted one.  32 inch.  Part No. MT3151A05-1 (1366 x 768.  Data sheet http://www.datasheetspdf.com/PDF/MT3151A05-1/903529/1)

If you're in Melbourne AU (SE subs) - I have a (55"?) Bauhn (Aldi) that was working last time it was powered on about 12 months ago - but has a slight full-screen brightness flicker after warming up.

I don't think it would be a hard fix if I was inclined - but it was given to my son, and he's forgotten about it.

Too many TVs already - PM if you want it!
