I've found some cool hands-on training hardware in the Lab-Volt FACET system, but I'm unable to locate a correct and corresponding textbook. Anyone have experience with this system?

I've got a complete lab manual (all courses) in PDF format, but not much meat in it.

Example hardware:

Any pointers would be appreciated!

Hi, EZ.

This is gold! Thanks for the approach.

Still looking for the matching textbook/courseware--anyone?

After an exhaustive search, I believe that I've located some textbooks and student lab books designed to work with this system. I'll update this thread as soon as I receive them, and can validate.

I ordered a matched set of 4th Edition volumes (both used), which seemed to be both mostly up-to-date while being fairly economical (in the US, current-edition textbooks on any topic--even used--almost require bank financing to purchase).

Do these boards have to be plugged into something to be used, since they have fingers at the top?

Yes, there's a base unit (two varieties) that is common to all of the plug-in modular boards. One version is electro-mechanical, and includes an array of hardware switches to control circuits (student) and to introduce faults into the circuits (instructor). The other version is apparently completely PC-integrated.

It would appear that both base unit types are hard to come by! :(

Wow, I have some Lab-Volt training units, synchros and similar, never realised they did such a range. Hate to think what some of it must have cost though. One of those one day projects, have to look for some manuals but all pretty obvious how it works.

Hi, Woodchips.

Do you have the base unit that the boards plug into? I'm wondering whether the computer-integrated model (the one without the switches on top) can be operated stand-alone or not. I don't necessarily care whether I can manually introduce faults into the circuits--I just want to be able to use the basic functionality of the insertable circuit boards.
