LCD Lenses
« on: February 15, 2016, 01:24:05 pm »
Hey all,

So I want to make some ski goggles that hopefully displays direction, speed, coordinates, and which way is down (When foggy sometimes you can't tell which way is down) and I was thinking of taking a Nokia 5110 LCD and taking out the back light, and the back panel so you have just the bare Liquid crystal layer and use the sun as the back light and mount to the lens of my goggles. Would I be able to do this without damaging the LCD or do you have a better idea?

I know this isn't a very practical option for a screen since it's so low res and it'll be close to my eye but I want to mess around with it

Thanks  O0

I for one, would not like anything crystalline in such close proximity to my eyes. I used to have some ski goggles (Uvex I think..) and at best, something transparent could conceivably fit down between the two lenses. However, opening that area is like opening a thermal pane window and condensation will appear once you're back on the slope, not to mention slow cold-LCD response and focusing on something so close.

What about inventing an OLED HUD headband that is partly Velcro attached to the top of the goggles (to stop vibration shift) and shines its light down via optical pipe and forward to reflect back? (I think semi-transparent bronze tape is sometimes used...)
