Learning how to identify boards
« on: October 17, 2017, 06:09:08 am »
How do y'all identify what purpose different circuit boards were for? Usually researching does the job but for example picture I added I can't find anything  , looked up website labeled and found nothing, any help?
Thanks

Context is important when trying to determine what a board does.

In this case it's easy because I'm familiar with boards very similar to that one. What you have there is a BMS (battery management system) board for a lithium-ion pack. For up to 10 cells in series, based on the number of contacts.

That's what I thought at first mainly because most I have seen has the battery pads labeled B1-2-3 etc but second guessed myself. Hmm this might be useful being that I have a dual cell charger ATM which can be a bit aggravating when needing to charge several cells..... thank you for the help !!

Any chance where I can find a wire diagram for something similar ?

You have connection points named Bx, and you have a back-to-back MOSFET array with current sensing resistors but no high speed gate drivers, and you have an array of comparators and bleeding resistors and small MOSFETs, what can it be if it's not a BMS?
Although I was pretty sure it was a bms Being a beginner and knowing said subject isn't to be taken lightly , it's good that I second guessed myself and went with asking for help. I'm not sure what or if it can be anything else and that's why asking was the way to go . Thank you , your comment led me to researching and learning some new things [emoji106]
