Looking for a miniature wire to wire connector
« on: October 29, 2013, 01:08:19 am »
Hi all, I am looking for small quantities (~3 pairs) of small wire to wire connectors for 4-6 wires. This is for a one of application with tight space. I plan on using 30AWG teflon wires. Ideally the connectors will have small pitch but not too small so I can assemble it by hand, may consider 0.1" pitch but would prefer denser.

I looked around and could find many wire to board connectors but not wire to wire.  I am located in the US so prefers products I can purchase locally (e.g. digikey, mouse, etc). Price is not a big issue but need to be reasonable (let's say 5-10$ per pair).

Thanks,
Z.

Have you looked at .05" headers? Like Mouser # 517-45206-600230

This is a wire to board connector, right? I need wire to wire.

Would micro-USB be small enough?  You can buy extension cables and cut them in half.

Sorry, I misunderstood. Your best bet would probably be a circular connector, something like this.

I don't know if you could find micro USB cables with all five pins connected. If the shield isn't connected to the gound pin, though you could use that as a 5th contact.

I was thinking about it but the cable is too bulky.  http://www.ebay.com/bhp/micro-usb-extension

Thanks. Very useful indeed. I need some time to process it.

Edit: I looked at the Molex site and it seems that this one:
http://www.molex.com/molex/products/datasheet.jsp?part=active/0701070004_CRIMP_HOUSINGS.xml

And one of these:
http://www.molex.com/molex/products/datasheet.jsp?part=active/0050579305_CRIMP_HOUSINGS.xml  // polarized
http://www.molex.com/molex/products/datasheet.jsp?part=active/0050579405_CRIMP_HOUSINGS.xml  // polarized and locking

Will do the job. I will give it a try. Thanks everybody for your help.

A quick followup, Per one of the suggestions I used  digikey WM2536-ND + WM9137CT-ND  and  WM2903-ND    + WM9139CT-ND and was happy with the results. I did not have a compatible crimp tool so used short nose pliers and a soldering iron.
