Looking for something to hold the soldering iron

When soldering my problem is 'shaky hands'. Is there a contraption that can hold a tool (in this case the soldering iron) while I position it. I think the mechanism in a drill press does this, the operator turns the handle to bring the chuck down, letting go of the handle eases the soldering iron. Even if its not made for a soldering iron I could modify it to hold an iron.

you could get a press for a dremel (modelling drill) and try modifying that. You will need the iron on an angle though, it's really not going to be easy.

I owned the dremel drill press for a while, and though it is useless for actually drilling, it does have a rotating head, so it is easy to put the soldering iron at an angle and apply downward to the solder joint.

oh yes of course it does turn too so solved, just need to fix the iron to it.

Yes they are not the best for drilling as they move to one side slightly when the drill bit hits the thing to drill but they are not too bad.
