There might be some configuration files not found be the uninstaller. LTspice is a little strange where it puts files when installed on newer windows versions (e.g. Win8.x). This caused a problem with automatic updates because of write protected directories - I don't know if it is solved in the meantime (I still use a older version because of this).
I would try to locate the directories for configuration and similar files and another uninstall with a manual check that all old configs are gone. Also check in the directory where your circuits are - could be a bad config there too. There might also be something in the registery - though I don't know for sure.
That's why I have used "Revo Uninstaller", it's a software designed to remove any left registery or files that the LTspice Uninstaller left.
the software just "stopped responding" and crashed
Did the program hang and did you have to end it manually or did it just exit?
Did you install anything else that made it crash?
Have look in the windows application log if there is anything helpful.
I click in start simulating, instantly the software freezes, then windows says that it has stopped responding.
No, I have not installed anything that made it crash, I just didn't use it for 2 days and today it happened on the first time opening LTspice.
Are you sure both LTSpice XVII and IV crash when loading that file?
I have had problems with XVII crashing, when trying to simulate certain circuits but never IV.
What version of XVII are you using 32-bit or 64-bit? I use the 64-bit version.
What operating system? So far it's only crash on Windows 7. It hasn't crashed yet under WINE in Linux, even though there are some minor bugs in the user interface which don't occur with Windows.
Try to get into the habit of saving schematics before running the simulation.
I don't know why it crashes. Missing files shouldn't cause it to crash. If it does because it can't find a file, then it's a bug. If the simulation fails because of a missing file LTSpice should abort the simulation and display and error, rather than crash.
Yep, the same problem in LTspiceIV and LTspiceXVII.
I've downloaded LTspice from here:
http://ltspice.linear-tech.com/software/LTspiceXVII.exe not sure what version it is.
I'm using Windows 10.
it doesn't matter if I save the schematic or not.
I've noticed that the simulation sometimes work and sometime doesn't, 1 out of 3 times maybe the simulation will work and the software wont crash.
