Is there a reasonably comprehensive list somewhere of which electronic components I need to keep away from magnets?
The only things I've ever seen affected by magnets are magnetic storage media (obviously...), CRTs, and some mechanical or electromagnetic things like some clock movements, speaker coils, reed switches, etc. However, at least these days, I'm more worried about solid state electronic components.
In a practical sense, I'm talking about relatively weak magnetic fields, such as that produced by a small (~ 10mm x 5mm) neodymium cylinder magnet at a distance of a couple of cm or more.
I'm curious about two related failure modes, actually:
- Malfunctions in operating circuits, and
- Permanent damage to (disconnected) components
Happy Easter.
