Marking & Package
« on: September 17, 2014, 07:28:37 am »
Hello,

Does any body know how to identify SMD component with very little info available?

I am looking for component with marking symbol TE & Package SOT-235

On small pakages, there may be other markings on that. You may need to use a microscope to see them (i have a 10x zoom USB one that works pretty well).

But, with limited amount of space to write on these components, it may be hard to figure out exactly what it is.

See if you can find any other markings.

Is it SOT-23-5, meaning, an SOT-23 package but with 5 leads?  That could be anything from an Inverter to a MosFET.

Yes your pretty much buggered with smd stuff, I am always very careful when working with SMD to only have one part at a time out of a labelled packet. Reverse engineering stuff, erm yea. The actual diagram might help you identify what it is. If you know what the circuit does you may be able to figure out what the part is generically.

I've bought a voltage ref in a SOT-23-5 package before.

I use this for SMD marking codes:
http://www.systek.ru/marking.php

It says SOT23-5 with TE marking is either RT9261B or TC2055-2.85

Thanks for your replies.

But I haven't got the exact component which I am looking for i.e
Marking:TE
Package:SOT23-5(with 3rd pin GND)

Hey , Simon

Please find the attached image for your reference.
Pin no.3 should be GND & the marking on the component should be "TE"

Uh yea that can be anything: opamp, logic gate, voltage ref, temp sensor, weird transistor, voltage regulator, smps controller, you name a part with 5 leads and it and it could be it.

Yeah, but I have specified the marking as "TE". Surely, everything that you have mentioned cant have 3rd pin as GND.

so that does narrows down search.

why not ? for years all IC's had power pins in exactly the same place. If it is made by TE you can narrow down by parts they make, then the schematic will give you clues

Not narrowing down search by a tiny bit, you can just check the parts that obviously cannot be what you are looking for after already finding them.
There can be a lot of parts with similar marking. You need to specify what function this part does or at least what is the device where it is used. So direction where it need to be searched for is known. Often it is easier to find what it is, knowing a designator on the PCB (even if no schematics available) rather than actual marking on the part.

yes the pcb marking may help, if it's TE it may be limited as don't think they make much. Also its connections on the board and what it's connected too could help.

It may take awhile to hunt this down.

I just looked at some of my packages, though, I know what they are, One has VF, one has Z86, one has Z32.

If I didn't know what these were, I may have trouble with them.

The only thing I can suggest, is look at the other traces going to it and try and figure out what it is based on that. If it is on a circuit board.

If You find out what it is based on that, and don't know exactly the component model or manufacturer, you can select (for instance, you know it's an inverter), then goto digikey or mouser, and look at inverters and search through components and look at data sheets.  All data sheets will say what Marking Code that is on that particular chip from the manufacturer.

You can try to look at http://smdcode.com/en/ or http://www.s-manuals.com/smd/. http://smdcode.com listed around 10 parts for TE, mostly TVS diodes and voltage regulators.
