CT sells re-branded meters - much better to post a picture of the pcb and, if possible, find the orig. mfg. and revision marks on it?

Also search the forum for just Mastercraft. You will see mfg. Colluck make the more recent ones.
Yours appears like this one:

edit: image HH2706

maybe they will have the schematic, but good luck!

If you reach a dead-end getting the schematic, try the main office - gotta love that Canadian flag (flapin-in-the-breeze..) :-DD

I think it is time to replace the old analog meter with a modern digital multimeter. Can't you afford ten dollars?
I used my expensive Fluke digital multimeter in the lab and at home then I bought a cheap Can-Tire digital multimeter so I could measure voltage and current at the same time. They both have the same accuracy.

Hi Every one

Thanks a lot for your helpful posts
Cliff, it is same as in your first picture.I shall follow up your
suggestions
Yea, got to love that Canadian Flag any time any where (my adopted home)

To Audioguru, this gadget has sentimental value for me, it is dainty, handy and serves the purpose
though lot of Chinese stuff is available locally but  I would rather stick to trusted brands as long
as it last
Thanks again

I think I'll be seeing one of these meters on Saturday, coincidentally about an hour's drive from Halifax.  If someone doesn't get you a picture by then I'll take one.

To  macboy

Lot of thanks for the pcb picture

Here the values  I have been able to decipher
These resistor have 5 bands and on Electrodroid App 5th band doesnt show up on some.

R3  Brown      White    Yellow   Mauve   Brown           1.94k

R5  Brown      Black     Black    Green                        10M

R6  Brown      Brown   Yelow    Brown                        1.14k

R9  Brown      Grey      Black    Blue                           180M

Perhaps if you can double check before I solder the replacement resistors will be  real help

An other tricky question. If resistors of exact value are not available what is the % of leeway if any, resistors
of higher or lower values can be used.
The gadget is to be used I routine AC DC volts measurement and resistance mainly in low voltage
radio related repair

Thanks

I think you are reading the colour codes backwards. The common brown band to all of them means they are 1% tolerance.

Hi everyone

Here is the reply from Mary-colluck,  hunghey@126.com, to my post.
The original site is mentioned by "cliff"

Hi

If the resistors of exact value are unavailable would a knowledgeable person suggest
nearest values? Thanks

You might have to make up the values by putting a couple of resistors in series or parrallel. For example:

19.4k = 47k + 33k in parallel should be pretty close
950 = 620 + 330 in series
1140 = 820 + 220 in series
46 = 22 + 24 in series

So, Mastercraft is the house brand name of Canadian Tire.

But, a Mastercraft branded product, with the correct Canadian Tire part number can be found in Pakistan.

I also saw, on a different forum, pictures of Mastercraft tools (some still in their original packaging) that were available in the Philippines.

This is intriguing.

Thanks Wavey,

But the size of pcb limits innovation. Do suggest way out.

I will check again locally but I am sure Canadian brands need presence here provided it can compete with Chinese products price wise.
Before partition of the sub continent into Bharat( now India) and Pakistan in 1947, it was almost exclusively British followed by German and other
Europeans countries who held sway in this region.These products  lasted for decades. No exaggeration. But times have changed.The Chinese products From Canadian Tire, I have plenty from a store at Quinpool Road Halifax NS ,are much superior.Thanks for info.

According to my (second) ohmmeter,
R3=270k  R5=590r R6=1.14k R9=47r. My eyes at this moment are not seeing the colours, but if you still need, I will try to have a look when it is sunny tomorrow.

I saw this post, looking for the correct resistor to replace on my Mastercraft Multi-meter.  The picture was almost perfect.  The resistor R11 is broken and need to replace it.  Is it possible to get a picture of the whole thing?  Bought a digital but have to fool around with the leads every time to get it to work!
