Measuring Voltage from my frequency generator help.
« on: March 13, 2018, 09:25:47 pm »
How come when I take a measurement from my frequency generator I get funny measurement values on my DMM? If I set it to output a 5 VDC signal and hook it to any of my meters they all give me a different readings but none that equal what the FG says it's out putting. Like loads different! If I set it for any of the AC wave forms it's even worse! When I move the offset around the reading on my meter changes so I take it it's reading say the rising edge or whatever of the waveform but should my meter not compensate for that?

Could someone help me understand this please? Thanks  :-//

Can you tell us a bit more how your connection setup looks like?

It's a cheap Feeltech 3224 FG and i connect it to my meter with a simple BNC connector out the FG with red and black croc clips on the other end of the cable. I connect the red and black croc clips to the red and black leads that are on my meter. Nothing fancy!  :)

Thanks for the help.

Ah cool! As soon as I  started reading the link I had a DOH!! moment!   :-+

I understand now, I will read all the link and I am sure by the time I get to the end I will understand it. My oscilloscope has a "measurements" button that gives all the readings I need from a signal so I can compare my DMM's to these and see what part of the signal my different meters are reading.

Thank you very much again!!  :-+
