Mouser screwed up an order

See anything odd about this?

Here's a pic from the other side:

Why, why, it's a Zener diode that lights up when at Zener voltage, of course! :-/O

Not bad.  There's at least seven bicolour LEDs in that bag, so its worth a minimum of twice as much as your Zeners.

^I figured there were probably 30 of them, but now that you mentioned it, it looked a bit light. So I opened and counted 19 LEDs.

They are common cathode R/G.

I wonder if these 19 LEDs weigh the same as 30 half watt thru hole Zener diodes.

Red and green LEDs happen to have reverse breakdown in the right range. This one is listed as having reverse breakdown of 5V for both the R and the G... but power dissipation is only 65mW, and I'm not sure regular diodes survive reverse voltage over max? If there happened to be 15 in the bag, it would be ironic, though.

Ah.  I though I saw '5x' on the label and missed the 'Qty 30'.  19 of them's not such a gread deal.  Hopefully, when Mouser send the Zeners, they'll write off the LEDs.

I notified them, but I haven't heard back, yet.

I would be shocked if they wanted these back. The hassle to restock them would be more than they're worth, I'd wager. Let alone shipping cost.

I just want them to know they have the wrong part in this bin, and I'd eventually like my zeners without an additional shipping charge, lol.

Yeah, more than likely they'll just send you the correct part.

Happens sometimes.  I've had a couple odd parts from DK as well, easily resolved.

Congratulations on your new dual-input visual Zeners. ;)

Not naming the suppliers, but I have a couple of stories:

When I was starting out I ordered a 555 timer and received an ATmega328p in its place. It was awkward explaining that whilst it was an incredibly fortunate mistake to receive a part that I'd be able to do far, far more with than a 555, I actually did need the 555, and I couldn't solder a QFP at the time so I couldn't even use the ATmega328p.

Another was entirely comical. I'm sure everyone who gets parts living in Australia can guess the supplier just from the description. I ordered a single row of 10 pin male header. About a dollar I think? I received a 2x5 header. This was useless to me at the time, as I was still using only breadboards at that point. I asked for a refund. They insisted on replacement. The dollar part was shipped from overseas an arrived by courier over a week later. Again it was wrong. By this point I'd gone round the block and bought my own header.  I think they might have insisted on trying one more time, but I can't remember for sure. Anyway, after the last attempt I just asked for my dollar back as they were obviously having some troubles with their system that no one person was able to solve. Or I gave up and wore the loss, I can't remember. Or they refunded it and billed me a month later anyway. I've lost track after so many orders.

I sent them e-message. This was an afterthought tack-on item along with hundreds of dollars of stuff I actually need. I don't even have immediate use for it. I just noticed, recently, that my stock of 5V zeners is MIA. I have no clue where they are, but I only used 2 of them in maybe 10 years. :)

I would rather they just cancel the order and I'll redo it next time I actually need stuff. Probably no more than a few months away; more likely a few weeks. I just like to know, when I do it, that I won't get 19/30th of bi color LED, again.

If anyone actually needs bi color LEDs, perhaps it is worth a shot to order this zener diode, lol. It is quite a bargain, even given the short shrift on the quantity (by weight ratio, perhaps?).

I've received some boards from OSHPark with part of my address missing from the label. I still received them alright, as only my apartment was missing. Emailed them about it.

The next boards I ordered had the same problem.

At least the boards are good and I'm still receiving them.

Never had any problems with Mouser, though.

Once had ordered some 10 or 15pf capacitors from Digikey to be used as load capacitors on the quartz oscillator of a microcontroller. The circuit would not work. After a couple of hour figuring out why the oscillator would not run, finally took one of them and measured: The had a couple dozen nF (but probably the right dielectric, the color was consistent with NPO).
The RMA process of Digikey was fine, I got 10 replacement ones 2 days later, but they really wanted me to send the 10 old ones back. UPS saver from Germany to the US. So they spent probably 100 times more on the return shipment than what these caps were worth.
