Multi-color/ bi-color LED ( 2 cathodes and 1 anode)
« on: August 26, 2014, 12:20:37 am »
Hello, I was wondering if there are any multi-color/ bi-color leds that have 2 cathodes and 1 anode. I am working on a project and I want to use 1 multi-color led, but the IC's pins go to ground. I am using 2 pins on the IC ( UCS1001-2-BP-TR ) that show attach detection and/or an error. All of the leds available seem to only have 1 cathode and 2 or more anodes.  Is it possible to make a single LED with 2 or more cathodes and 1 anode? (if it is possible, im trying to get through hole parts not SMD, but any info will help )

This is the kind of led i'm looking at, but this one only has a single cathode/common.

All of the 3-pin bi-colour LEDs I've used were common cathode.  The Digikey parametric search doesn't have a CA / CC selection which is ominous.

You can definitely get RGB LEDs in CA or CC though.  Maybe that's near enough for your needs?

In addition to the above suggestions (which are good ones), what about using a dual transistor in a small SOT23 (or smaller) package to switch your CC LED with a pair of grounds from your chip?  Do you have enough board space for another SOT package?
It's not always the most popular person who gets the job done.

I found this Lumex part: SML-LX15IGC-TR, red/green, common anode

And do you think the guy is still waiting for an answer?  He asked in 2014
