Newbie SMPS repair
« on: November 16, 2017, 07:22:54 am »
Hi there.
I'm new to the forum, and wondering if someone could possibly help with repairs on a switchmode power supply. The power supply is out of a canon sx80 projector. Everything seems ok, unit will turn on, lamp will glow fans kick in, but once lamp goes to strike, the unit shuts down and flashes 5 times indicating abnormal voltage was detected by the main board (replace power supply according to the service manual). Upon inspection, everything looks ok. Have tested the output voltage according to the manual, I have the 6V, 18V to the main which is in spec. When I test the high voltage, at the rectifier is 316VDC, but at the main filter capacitor its 370VDC which is then output to the ballast board. There is nothing in the diagrams I have got to say whether that is spec or not but I'm assuming that the filter cap should be sitting at 316VDC as well. Please correct me if I am wrong. What would be the next place to test? I'll try and attach a screen shot of the diagram I have aqcuired from the service manual. Sorry for the noob questions, but I'm all about the learning  :D
Cheers
