Off topic _ optics

Slightly off topic.

Looking for a website not unlike this one dealing in optics.

Have a requirement for a advice on slide projector optics and standard parts to be able to knock up something together quickly and inexpensively.

Amateur telescope makers like to discuss optics quite a lot. Just like us they like the expensive and high precision stuff. Here are two:

One place that supplies cheap surplus optics is http://www.surplusshed.com/  never actually dealt with them, I just know they exist. There should be others.

The best approach would be to find an old slide projector and hack it to do what you want. Failing that you have a bit of design you need to do. The basic structure of a projector is like this:

Light Source >> IR Filter (optional) >> Condenser assy. >> Focus Plane >> Projecting Lens >> Projecting Screen

Everything should be self explanatory except the IR Filter which removes the heat from the light source thus preventing it from burning the other components.

The condenser assembly's job to make the light even across the field. It consist of to half spheres mounted back to back.

HAL,

Thanks for the links.

I was aware of Surplusshed and their lens inventory.

I went to Yahoo groups looking for a suitable group but the list is overwhelming .
