On-line UPS - how to check it is faulty or not without batteries
« on: February 02, 2014, 12:37:58 pm »
Hi,

I got a True on-line UPS that looks like being in superb condition, but it is without batteries. I managed to locate the attached document (I removed some non-relevant pages due to doc size) and I found out it runs from 8x 12VDC batteries. Now, I don't have those batteries laying around just for test and I don't know how to test this beast without them.
If the UPS is OK, I will be gladly purchase them, but not just for test.

Any help is appreciated to help me do the basic troubleshooting if it is working or not.

Systel ON-LINE PM1500 UPS

Needless to say, when connected to mains, it looks dead.

thanks,
Sasha

No obvious blown parts, just plug it in and see if it complains about battery fault. If so then it is likely to be working, and you can get 8 7Ah SLA batteries and test it.

So it needs the battery to bootstrap then. You need a power supply that can deliver the required 90VDC it needs then it should start up and complain with no mains connected. If not then it is spare parts.

that is my problem. how to get 96VDC supply.
another option was that I scrap from different UPSs around some batteries and to ask friends for some more.

Do be careful, DC is much more dangerous, especially if you got across both the positive and negative leads.
