Oscilloscope
« on: January 22, 2018, 02:16:34 pm »
Hello everyone ,

I just  bought  one analogic oscilloscope  Fluke  PM3370B  60MHZ  so I am real  hobbyest  and I am very happy ;D ;D

I have two questions : First  , Is right decision recaping  the PSU due to years  ?  and  second  Is enought scope probes hantek 100mhz or you recomended buy high quality brand .

I expect it use to check and build power supply  audio and general audio design.

Regards  ;)

I recap on failure, most of the time. Some scopes I have back to late 1940's caps still good,
even the electrolytics (although I have not actually measured their performance). Decision
depends on equipment. I have recapped from get go SW receivers because of a history of
cap failure.

You should be OK with Hantek probes you mentioned.

It does not hurt to check the scope alignment if you have the gear to do it. I also clean
switches and any socketed parts lift them slightly and press back into sockets. In Tek scopes
they had transistors in PCB/solder thru hole connections, I move them a bit to break any
oxidation. Be careful of HV, make sure you discharge all caps and CRT before you do any
of this work.

Congrats on your new scope, looks like a nice one. User groups and forums are a good source of info on a question like this as often that info is particular to the make and model/age. For older analog scope I have stuck to TEK primary because manuals are easily obtainable and there are lots of people rebuilding them to ask questions of.  I am curious if Fluke made their own scopes or had someone else manufacture them.

Hi Old Printer  :) ,, Thanks

I dont know if Fluke made it  but there is several version of Philips with the same aspect .  I have found the service manual , software and user manual ,so happy .

You know , to audio maybe need 1 mhz and I have 60 Mhz , plus 200Ms/s sample rate , its more than enought to me.

Regards ;)

I used a similar scope to that in my first electronics job but the 100MHz version.  Nice scope and very usable.

A poke around ebay shows several listed as Fluke with Phillips badges on them and "Fluke" nowhere to be seen. :-// but I have never really looked at either brand. That said, Phillips is a very respected name and from what I hear, I would take a nice one in a second.

If it works fine then just leave it alone. There is some risk of causing damage when re-capping so the old saying applies "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Check the voltage and ripple of the  power supply. If everythin is fine, just leave it.
Otherwis, some caps may be sik.
