Oscilloscope Max input voltage
«

Hey all,,,
I have a Rigol 1052E which has a max input voltage of 300 vrms.
I need to test a signal which is 30 vpp riding on 350 vdc.
Is the voltage rating for a 1:1 probe?
Also is a attenuator probe a voltage divider for dc?
thanks mike

I believe your questions are answered in
this previous thread about the same topic
.
An attenuator is a voltage divider for both AC and DC (probe compensation is about making the AC attenuation the same as the DC attenuation), assuming the scope is set to DC coupling. If it's set to AC coupling, the DC input impedance is (almost) infinite, so the DC voltage at the probe tip (without attenuation) should not exceed the max. DC voltage on the AC coupling input capacitor.

Connect a neon lamp and high value resistor across the 'scope input and AC couple the signal via a suitably rated capacitor.
