Over voltage protection and reverse polarity protection
« on: September 26, 2018, 05:17:10 am »
My specs are 9V - 15V.

My project requires Over voltage protection and reverse polarity protection.

What is the "best" way to do this for a simple project?

Do I design a circuit to check for this or do i just go with a chip that handles it??

PTCC + TVS may be a very simple solution, need more information

Nominal load 1mA or 1kA?

Overvoltage of 16V or 16kV?

Reverse of -1V or -1kV?

Is it a slow swell, fast transient, lightning surge, nuclear EMP?

Once you know the voltage, current and time scales of the system, methods become apparent. :)

Is this a personal project, or does it have a commercial application? If the latter, does it have to meet any standards, for instance automotive standards?

Not knowing your exact situation, a diode for reverse voltage protection and some simple 3 pin voltage regulator that handles a wide enough range of input voltage. As mentioned above, you need to be more specific for more specific suggestions.
