Photoresistor with HC-SR501 PIR
« on: November 20, 2014, 11:04:37 am »
The instructions for this aren't great, but I gather that there are 2 empty slots for you to put a photoresistor on the board.  Does anyone know how to adjust light sensitivity and other settings for this?  I have not seen anything helpful in searches or the documentation.

I am trying to create a motion-sensor night light without having to put a microcontroller in it.

Digging around I came across a couple of answers... at least for the version I have:

The schematic at the bottom of http://www.wayengineer.com/human-infrared-sensor-module-hcsr501-p-896.html shows the LDR connected to pin 9 on the BISS0001 chip. The specs on that chip at http://www.seeedstudio.com/wiki/images/2/2f/Twig_-_BISS0001.pdf shows that pin 9 will enable/disable the sensor at 0.2V. In other words, only operate in the dark. So it looks like it would work for you as is. Easy enough to find out.

As for the other connection, I have seen photos marked as "thermistor". On my board the LDR holes are marked RL (resistor light?) and these ones as RT (resistor temp?).

It's very hard to see the traces, but it almost appears to connect with the sensitivity potentiometer, which would (purely guessing here), adjust the sensitivity based on the ambient temperature. Makes some sense to my untrained mind!
