pin 1 on smd package ?
« on: January 24, 2015, 02:10:43 pm »
Hi there

I have an SMD component that doesn't have a notch to identify pin 1,
but it has a line at the top (check attachment). My logic tells me that the pin next to that line is pin 1.
I learnt in a hard way not to assume anything, so I am asking. Is the pin next to the line pin 1 ?

The line has the same function as a key notch on a DIP IC.

Sometimes the data sheet contains a drawing which is specific to that particular part, in which case pin 1 should be identified unambiguously.

In the absence of any further information, I'd expect pin 1 to be the pin at the bottom of your photo nearest the "C" mark.

you see how side of the pin 1 is not at 90 degres angle that's the side that 1 will always be in the left upper corner

Usually pin 1 is the bottom left.

Check the datasheet instead of guessing.

top left corner

Oh, you're viewing the package rotated. That was not overly clear.

Always orient the package so the markings can be read. It avoids this sort of silly confusion.
