Probe ratio setting - 1X vs 10X
« on: September 02, 2016, 03:32:19 pm »
Hey guys...

I wanted to ask what may be a stupidly-basic question.  When doing a firmware update on my MSO2000 series scope, I started checking all the settings.  I realized that the probe ratio was set to 1X on both channels.  Since the probes that ship with the scope are fixed 1:10 ratio, should I be setting that value to "10" in the channel settings?

If so, it seems odd that Rigol would not default it to 10X since that's what they pack in the box.  On a different note, I've got my scope software upgraded to 300MHz, but is it worth investing in higher-end Tek or Agilent probes?  Those look pretty pricey, even for passive probes.

Thanks guys!

Unlocked the Rigol MSO2072A to a MSO2302A via JTAG.  Read about how here: https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/rigol-mso2000-series-hacking/msg498454/#msg498454
