Probes
« on: August 12, 2016, 11:31:17 pm »
Hello all,
I am a fan of Daves and decided to join the forum. I have been tinkering with electronic for many years as a hobby. Today I bought my first oscilloscope on ebay, I have always wanted one. I'm sure I will get some eye rolls for this question but here it goes anyway. The scope didnt come with probes and its a 20mhz scope, when I buy probes for the scope must I buy 20mhz probes, or will any work? Sorry for the dumb question and thanks ahead of time for any answers.

Yes, but.... ....make sure that the *Compensation Range* of the 10x probes you buy include the actual input capacitance of your scope's vertical inputs.  This will be printed on the front panel of the scope.  If the terms like 10x probe, compenstation, input capacitance, etc. are new to you, then check out my video on the basics of 1x/10x oscilloscope probes:

I was just glad there weren't any images of monkeys here.
