program / software to the microchip
« on: November 04, 2012, 03:57:01 am »
Greetings

Most of this environment is bewildering.

I have built a small device using an Arduino.

A couple of neigbours saw it and want one.

For lots of reasons I cannot really sell them what I have, its simply not robust enough.

So I though I would have a PCB made, as a few others may want one.

And the person / company who will help me design and make the PCB will have to help with components and schematics.

But how do I get the program / code from my computer onto the chip?

The Arduino has a boot loader to assist, but don't think I want one for my gadget.

Maybe there is some sort of product that I can plug the chip into download the code and unplug the chip ready to be solder to the PCB?

If there are some good links to assist would appreciate.

Or any suggestions or thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks

Pulpo

be careful using the word 'microchip' -  it is an actual brand name of a chip manufacturer.

Probably better if you used 'microcontroller'

Ah, beat me to the punch. Anyways  I think what you are looking for is an Atmel programmer of sorts. Like this one (http://store.atmel.com/PartDetail.aspx?q=p:10500054)  if you plan to use the same atmel chip in the arduinos

There are also ways of using your existing Arduino to program other AVR controllers (either with the Arduino bootloader or a bare bones firmware). A quick Google search of "use arduino to burn bootloader" or similar will give you plenty of results.
