PSU wiring dilemma...
« on: June 25, 2018, 02:56:17 pm »
Hi, I just did a continuity check on my switching PSU but the ‘COM’ which I presumed to be common ground are not connected to each other and also isolated from the chassis of the PSU, I’m wondering if I should tie all the COM connections and the chassis to mains ground (is it safe to do so)?

standard switch mode ? all the outputs are isolated and not reference on the dc-dc transformer - don't tie it to ground, and you don't really want it referenced to earth or the mains, that sort of defeats the filtering

Yes, switch mode...

So I'm guessing this is unusable for my purposes, as my power bus needs a common ground for all voltages... The +5V will not work from the COM of the +/-12V

you can tie the outputs if you need to i imagine.
nice selection of voltages, where did you get it and what's the output ratings?

It didn't explode, so all good.

One of AliExpress' finest, although I cannot find that particular one now...
Specs:
+5V 5A
+24V 1A
+/-12V 1A
