Question about ssd's and possibility to add nands.
« on: August 21, 2015, 04:05:38 pm »
I have a Corsair Nova2 60GB which has a ps3105-s5 for the controller and 8 nand chips on one side and 8 blank tsop foot print on the other side.

I see other model ssd's using the same controller but with different nand chip arrays. What I'm wondering is if these controller chips can auto detect what the nands sizes are or if it's a hardware thing where the nand has certain pins getting power or ground or resistor values for example to tell the controller what size they are.

I know that the ps3105-s5 firmware is a universal one and the same across all devices as they can all be flashed with the firmware located in the link below. Thank you for your time.

I believe yes, the should be smart enough to detect the correct size of the memories after formatting, does not make much sense to have many versions of a very similar product.

But the question is, does it worth changing the NANDs? Do you have them in hand for swap (like a dead SSD as donor?)
