what is the best way to control a home made car by any remote with arduino

What do you mean "by any remote"? You see, if you're referring to television and other consumer electronics equipment remote controls, they often are different between models, manufacturers and regions, so there is no one way to use "any" remote.

Dave did a great video showing how to decode the output from an IR remote control using an Arduino and then play it back.  It would make a good place to start.  I was really quite stoked up watching it.

Well since the topic title is R/C, and we're talking about model cars, I'd assume the op wanted info on radio control.
Using a TV remote to control a toy car sounds tedious, unintuitive, and the absolute least amount of fun I can imagine.

However, in such broad terms, the "best way" would be googling "R/C with arduino", and reading the hits that make sense. :)

If the OP had two Arduinos or bare chips to play with, he could have a look at the 433Mhz RF transmitter and receiver kits for Arduino projects on eBay.  They are ridiculously cheap.

I bought a couple of sets to play with and it was very easy to get one device sending text messages to another.
