Whoohoo! I finally have a question after much lurking here.
I am a vintage computer collector and fix items here and there as well as replace capacitors both because of a need to replace a bad one and for preventative maintenance (to avoid corrosion of leaky caps). Yesterday, I ran into a color-coded tantalum capacitor that has me confused on how to read it.
I have an old PerSci floppy drive with dual controller boards from the early 80's. I put it into an old S-100 system and shortly after power up, the "magic smoke" was released from one of these caps. I immediately powered down. Below is a picture of what's left in the area marked C12 (or C13).
There are other caps that are similar so I've included a picture of another cap with the same markings. After looking at
http://www.csgnetwork.com/capcctantcalc.html, I believe it to be 10 uF @ 16volts if I read it correctly but the little picture says 1Uf @ 16v so I'm a little unsure if the blue line denoting positive is a multiplier or not. Does someone know how to read it?
Thanks in advance.
