Reflow oven for BGA
« on: December 19, 2015, 02:05:35 pm »
Hi there!

I want to be able to solder LGA of that sort of size or at least QFN like this.  I would be more than happy to achieve the yield of 25%.  Could this be done with DIY reflow oven?  Maybe some of you have experience with similar challenges in the past?

Thank you all!

That's really not a BGA. BGAs have a much narrower pitch. The pitch of the shown component is 1,27mm. The success mostly falls under how accurately you can apply solder paste (stencil) and then place the component.
If that is done correctly, I see no trouble with oven soldering.

One issue with leadless components is there might be thermal stress setup between the component and the PCB. It might work initially but fail when the PCB is flexed or thermally cycled.

If you have access to a reflow oven, just try it. If you don't, then you can do low-cost experiements using the "skillet method". There are many examples on the web, my experiences are at https://entertaininghacks.wordpress.com/tag/smd/
There are lies, damned lies, statistics - and ADC/DAC specs.
