Replacing Hot Air Station - advice ?
« on: June 19, 2017, 05:31:00 am »
Hi guys,

I have a WEP 862D+ rework station and the hot air gun borked itself. I ordered a heating element but it didn't appear to be compatible, so I ordered the proper one locally. The heating element works, but the fan seems to no longer function. It appears, there's only around 2v on the fan positive line, which wont change even adjusting the fan speed. Still only a newbie, not sure how long before I can fix it, so Im just going to get a 2nd unit, and if I managed to repair the WEP, then keep it as a spare.

With these two units, does anyone know if there's much difference between the hot air gun besides one having LCD digital display?

I'm leaning towards the YIHUA 878 as it's only $5 more and it comes with a soldering iron, which would come in handy as a spare, or use a 2nd different tip (saves waiting for one to cool down, then swapping tips)

If it is just a digital display difference, that doesn't bother me. I'm sure (but could be wrong) having manual knobs might be a little easier to diagnose faults/issues, compared to digital display units ??

Thoughts ?
