Rework station safety screw(what's the problem?)
« on: January 26, 2015, 11:33:29 pm »
This is just curiosity question.
I just bought hot air smd rework station and it has sticker saying that I need to remove screw that holds the pump during transportation and quote "otherwise it can cause a serious problem". How does the screw that just holds the pump will cause any kind of problem? What are they talking about? And I googled a bit and it seems most hot air rework station has this kind of rule of removing the screw, but nobody tells why exactly. I'm confused, wouldn't it be even better to leave the screw there since it will hold the vibrating pump?

Usually the pump is mounted on some compliant feet to absorb vibration, but the mass of the pump might break those during shipping. The screw might be to lock the internals of the pump in place too, in which case you *will* cause damage if you leave it in.

Amy has given a reasonable answer, but if you also think of a vinyl record turntable... it has screws for transport mode to protect the internal dampening.
