For prototypes I find it annoying when the solid core cables keep breaking. However IMHO they are easier to solder. So to bodge something fast I would use solid core. If what you have in mind is some nearly finished product I would go to stranded, it is more resilient, flexes easily and feels nicer too.
When soldering, just pre-tin the ends so that strands don't get frizzy and thats all.
(I made the mistake to join some XLR connectors to a PCB with solid core cable, install the product 9 meters high onto a moving rig. Half an hour later, there I was high on the scaffold holding the soldering iron with my mouth and the boards and the cables in my hands...)
