Rigol 1054z
« on: September 10, 2016, 06:08:37 am »
Is there anyone out there who can take me through the Rigol 1054z hack one step at a time. I am ready to purchase this DSO Oscilloscope but cannot understand exactly how to accomplish a practical hack. I would be very thankful if some one could explain the process one step at a time so that even a newbie could understand it. What do I need, what do I do, and how do I do it? Thank you.

There tons of threads in here about that topic, search for them.

Quick explanation;
1) Go to http://gotroot.ca/rigol/riglol/
2) Enter your serial number
3) Enter DSER under options (Privatekey will be filled automatic)
4) Click generate
5) Enter the generated key in your scopes option menu.

Done.

#3 should say
3) Enter DSFR under options (Privatekey will be filled automatic)

unless I am missing something.

No, don't use the DSFR option. It will enable 500 uV vertical resolution, which is not properly supported

DSER will enable all options, except the 500 uV vertical.

ohh ok.
i mentioned it because DSER wasn't listed on the page and thought it might had been a typo. ( page needs updated.)

Again I am a real newbie. I do all of this from the buttons on the front of the oscilloscope? Is this the main function or menu button? Thanks again

Lanaki, I did this hack just a little while ago on a new firmware version Rigol and it worked fine.

I did have to try a couple codes to get it to work.

firmware was like .04.03 I believe, since it's flashed I'm not sure it's accurate anymore.

another thing to pick up really quick is a small nonconductive philips screwdriver set.

you will need it to adjust the probes.

You can pick this set up on amazon:

https://www.amazon.com/Non-Conductive-Precision-Screwdriver-Set/dp/B004FCLIU0/ref=sr_1_1?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1473582463&sr=1-1&keywords=non+conductive+screwdriver

It's like 10 bucks.
I have to get one of these now because one of my probes has some drop off, so it's something you might as well get now.

You know, I just dug through my bags and did find them.  They were so small I didn't realize those were mini screwdrivers.

So I stand corrected and you just saved me ten bucks!

Hi all: Still waiting for my Rigol 1054z to be delivered. According to FedEx it should be here by the end of the day next Tuesday. But things have a way of taking longer to deliver here in Hawaii. I ordered some .01 mfd precision capacitors last month and according to USPS tracking number they were supposed to be here September 4th but still no show. This is typical for Maui. I do hope the Oscilloscope arrives on time. The capacitors are for the restore of a Heathkit C2 condenser checker manufactured in 1950, when I received it the condition was way less the sad but a complete restore is almost done. Aloha from Maui

While you're waiting, review posts 2906 and 2918 here:
https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/new-rigol-ds1054z-oscilloscope/

This will get you started with the unlock procedure and the firmware update.  You should probably do the update first.

Ignore the rest of the thread - most is way out of date.

Just got a call from FedEx and they will deliver oscilloscope sometime today. Now what comes first, they unlocking hack or firmware upgrade if needed? Aloha from Maui ( I went to forum that you referenced and it is great!!! In a few days I will be moving my requests and comments to that forum, thanks to all that are helping me here in beginners until I move to that forum with the posts about Rigol 1054Z.)  I will still use the beginners forum If I have questions about other items.

You should use the scope for a while first. The extra features are valid for a 30 hour trial anyway, so might as well "burn" the scope in while you learn how to use it and get familiar, and be sure there are no warranted failures.

Then you can upgrade the firmware.

Then, have fun...

I just got this scope (last week) and can confirm the process to "hack" it was just as straight forward as has been laid out here. The DSER enabled everything except the option that's not supported. It worked great.

How is it yall got an attenuation tool with your probes? I've checked my bags multiple times expecting a magic tool fairy to drop one in.  Ended up stealing one of the three i found floating around my desk drawer at school.

Congrats Lanaki on the new scope!  Hope the goblins didn't steal you're attenuation tools in transit like they did me.

the tools were in the probe bag, very small little black things you might not have noticed them, I hope you didn't toss them!
