Rigol DS2102A Oscilliscope -Where to buy?
« on: February 01, 2015, 07:58:25 am »
I live in the United States, where's the "correct" way to buy a DS2102A? The only options I seem to get are old prices on websites, and more current prices on ebay or amazon. (But both dont take advantage of fast shipping, and are from dubious companies themselves.) I am currently a part time student, and I'm very impressed with the features on the Rigol Scopes.

www.tequipment.net has them in stock and they are legit.

LE: Plus you can get EEVBlog discount.

Electro-meters stocks them. They're Ontario based but very legitimate, and have excellent communication. They only have one scope left in immediate stock, though! Otherwise you'd need to wait three weeks.

Another vote for TEquipment.net for US residents, as they offer a discount.  :-+

Once the discount is applied, they're cheaper than their competition, and it also comes with a free gift and free shipping (i.e. $788.66 for the DS2072A 70MHz version to your door).

And the reason I mention the 70MHz model, is they can be hacked to activate the software options as well as increase the BW up to 300MHz. Go to http://gotroot.ca./rigol/riglol-103d/, type in your unit's S/N, and enter DSHH in the Options field (unlocks all options). Leave Private Key blank, and hit Generate. A small box will display with the necessary key that will work on your scope. You may need to try it a few times before you get the key. How to enter the key is in the user manual under Options.

PM sent.  ;)

Thanks for the tip about the hack! I have been tossing up between a DS2072A and a 2102A and this settles it :)

Perhaps not... the DS2072A can also be hacked using the same link (scroll down to the DS2000 section).  :o   >:D  :-DD

That's the plan :D Now all I need to do is get my hands on the 2072A! >:D

TEquipment has pretty much everything but the 300MHz at offered for free with the 2072A so that's the only one I'll need to upgrade anyway...

Just to be clear, is buying from TEquipment & shipping to Australia cheaper than local sources, such as Emona these days?

P.S. The flag is now displayed beneath your userID.  :)

Woot! Good to know the flag's showing.

At TEquipment the 2072A withe free Options bundle (worth an extra A$1456 apparently) costs A$992 + A$302 (shipping) + Exchange costs - EEVblog discount = A$ 1325 (Rounded up to the closest number)

At Emona the 2072A with free upgrade to 100MHz costs A$1247 + 10%GST + shipping = A$1395

So, I save $60 right away and get a bunch of upgrades for free - without hacking the scope :) Also, the cost being under $1000 means I don't have to pay import duties + GST as well. :)
